The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
