West Ham's manager Believes West Ham Will Transform as Players Take Responsibility for Recent Struggles
West Ham's head coach has stated that the team's squad are eager to change and have taken responsibility for the club's poor form over the last year and a half.
Nuno, who is the third head coach since the previous manager left at the end of the 2023-24 season, is aiming to shift the mood in the locker room after replacing his predecessor recently. The London club have been lacking leadership, and there is a widespread acknowledgment among the players that they contributed to Potter departing from his position after less than a year.
“I've encountered a good team of individuals,” Nuno stated. “They are starting to understand that we must improve our approach. Without change, results will be the same. The players are willing to change. I can see it. Therefore, let's embrace it and transform it.”
“This applies from skill-based, tactical, physical, mentality, respect, dialogue. Communication is a vital asset for us. We still don’t complete mastery of it. It has to be a honest and clear exchange that we share. They have accounted themselves responsible and are prepared to go.”
Nuno's Current Focus
Nuno has had little time to adjust. He does not assembled his backroom staff yet, and the ex- Nottingham Forest manager is avoiding thoughts about what West Ham, in 19th place before facing their next opponents on Saturday, can accomplish this campaign. “My role is simple,” Nuno said. “It’s the immediate future.”
Defensive Issues for West Ham
A major concern for Nuno is bolstering his side’s defending at set pieces. West Ham have conceded multiple goals from corner kicks this term – the most recent concession came in his first game, Monday’s tie at Everton – and will be under sustained pressure from set plays against Arsenal. The concern for him is that it becomes a mental problem.
“That's possible,” he admitted. “However, we'll attempt to avoid it. The worst thing that can occur is that if an rival gets a corner, we start right away believing that we are in danger. It can develop into a trauma.”
